Okay, so Katy Perry did not just fall into this one.
In a new interview published today, Perry says she had already told her therapist she wanted a “legendary love” before she met former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
And now she is describing him as the “missing puzzle piece.”
The relationship came together during one of the messier periods of Perry’s recent life. Her 2025 Lifetimes Tour was happening while she was navigating the end of her engagement to Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares daughter Daisy, and the very loud public reaction to her 143 era.
Then Trudeau entered the plot.
When did Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau start dating?
Perry and Trudeau were first linked in 2025 and later went public as a couple. Their relationship became considerably less mysterious in June 2026, when they made their red carpet debut together at the Tribeca premiere of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
That night, Perry went even further and called Trudeau “the love of my life.”
So this new interview is less a hard launch and more Katy filling in the backstory.
Katy Perry says she asked for a “legendary love”
According to Perry, before meeting Trudeau she had been talking in therapy about wanting a relationship that felt bigger and more complete. She now connects that wish directly to what she has found with him.
There is something almost offensively on-brand about Katy Perry manifesting a romance and then ending up with a former prime minister.
She has also described Trudeau as grounding her when her life gets chaotic, saying their relationship makes her feel more whole.
What happened with Orlando Bloom?
Perry and Bloom ended their engagement in 2025 after a long relationship. In the new interview, Perry frames that period as part of a difficult year that overlapped with touring and a major professional reset.
Rather than presenting Trudeau as some random rebound, she is talking about the relationship as something she had actually been hoping for before they met.
Which brings us back to the sentence I am still not fully used to typing: Katy Perry says Justin Trudeau is her missing puzzle piece.
Pop culture really does write its own scripts.
