Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced that Chicken Shop Date is ending after more than a decade of awkward flirting, celebrity interviews and an alarming amount of fried chicken. The show is not disappearing immediately. Amelia says there are a few final dates still to come before she says goodbye for good. Why is ‘Chicken Shop Date’ ending? In a statement shared on social media, Amelia said she never thought she would stop making the series and once imagined it might stay part of her forever. She now feels it is time to move on to a new adventure. She described the show as her own rom-com and looked back on spending her twenties sitting across from people she had once only dreamed of meeting. Quite a journey for an idea that started when she was 17 and thought a chicken shop might be a good place to find the love of her life. When is the final ‘Chicken Shop Date’? There is no final episode date yet. Amelia says the last batch of dates is coming “very soon,” so the farewell is more final season than sudden cancellation. Chicken Shop Date moved to YouTube in 2014 and grew from interviews with UK rap and grime artists into one of the internet’s most recognisable celebrity formats. Guests over the years have included Billie Eilish, Cher and Andrew Garfield, whose painfully committed flirting with Amelia became a storyline of its own. Recent reporting around the show has put its reach at roughly one billion views across its run. What is Amelia Dimoldenberg doing next? The timing makes a little more sense when you look at what Amelia is already building outside the chicken shop. She has been developing a young-adult drama for the BBC and is also working on a romantic-comedy film with Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures. Her production company, Dimz Inc., has expanded well beyond the original YouTube series too. So the chicken shop is closing. Amelia, very clearly, is not.
