Someone is selling what they say is an Amy Winehouse autograph on Vinted for £40, and the sales pitch may contain the single least reassuring sentence ever written about celebrity memorabilia.
There is no proof it is real.
The listing started going viral after X account Ghostin shared screenshots of it on September 3. By Thursday night, the post had passed 1.6 million views.
The Vinted seller says the autograph belonged to their late grandmother, Jane, who they claim met Winehouse a couple of times in the 2000s and eventually worked up the courage to ask for an autograph. After Jane died in 2023, the seller says the item was passed down to them.
The seller openly says they do not have much evidence proving the autograph is genuine and that prospective buyers essentially have to take their word for it.
Okay. That is certainly one authentication system.
Is the Amy Winehouse Vinted autograph real?
Right now, there is no way to verify that from the listing alone.
The seller has not provided a certificate of authenticity, contemporaneous photograph or other documented provenance in the screenshots being shared online. That does not automatically make the autograph fake, but it means there is currently no independent evidence establishing that Winehouse signed it.
RR Auction sold a rare full-name Winehouse signature for $2,813 in 2023. Other authenticated examples have also sold for considerably more than £40.
The seller’s timeline is actually possible
Winehouse was already beginning her professional career around 2002, before releasing Frank in 2003.
So this is not a neat internet detective story where one date instantly proves the listing false.
It could be genuine. It could be completely made up. At the moment, the internet has exactly the same evidence the seller does: a story.
